If there were ever a Day to Learn that Truth is Stranger than Fiction, Today is that Day

50 years ago today, John F. Kennedy, C.S. Lewis, and Aldous Huxley all died. Simply remarkable–KSH.

I’m glad you pointed out that coincidence, Kendall. My wife tells an amusing story about that sad day 50 years ago. She was eight at the time, and a huge fan of the Narnia books. She was also a Wycliffe “MK” or missionary kid growing up in Papua New Guinea. At her mission school they first got the news that C. S. Lewis had died, and all the kids were in deep grief. No more Narnia books! Later when she got home after school, her mother told her that John F. Kennedy had been killed. Her response? “Who’s he??”

Yes, it’s odd how famous people sometimes die on the same day. For example, two early presidents, Thomas Jefferson and his political foe John Adams, died on the same day .And among theologians, Karl Barth and Thomas Merton also died on the same day in 1968.

Jefferson and Adams both died on July 4, 1826 exactly 50 years to the day after The Declaration of Independence.
